October 31

Hiya kids! Unca Bubba here, checkin’ in.

First of all, Happy Halloween to those people that celebrate. However, Bubba isn’t one of those people. Not necessarily a religious objection, or a Christian belief that kids that go trick-or-treatin’ in a Superman costume will grow up to worship Satan. Nope, just never really cared for the holiday, except for the huge bags of plunder that us kids used to gather every year on this date. Now that I’m an adult, the day just has no appeal to me.

Next, thought I would give an update on the weekend, and the doctor visit that happened yesterday. I flew out last weekend to LA to drive Pat home from her sister’s house. You see, her sister Lisa just had twins on October 4th, and Pat has been out there for the past month helping out where possible. Yes, pictures will be following! I have them on a chip on my phone, and I just need to download them and post to Blogger.

As you can imagine, the twins are just adorable! I got to hold them, and when Pat took my picture with one, she said that I need to have babies…either my own, or marry into a family that already has them. Well, I’m open to whatever the Lord has for me, but I would have to think that this is not the most logical idea. After all, I’m about 10 months short of my 40th birthday, and by the time I find someone, date, marry, and then get her pregnant, I figure I’ll be about 42, which means that I’ll watch them graduate when I’m 60. Might be just me, but that doesn’t sound really ideal to me.

Anyhoo, we obviously got back safe, but not before having to wait in traffic for over an hour because someone decided to have an accident on I-10 about 80 miles west of Phoenix. So we didn’t get home until after 8pm on Saturday night. I even made it to church on Sunday, which was really cool because we had a walk-through of the new building. Right now the foundation and walls are up, along with some of the plumbing in the cafe and bathrooms. Pretty cool stuff. I then went to Jeff and Marney’s house to play Starcraft…and had some pretty exciting battles, although we kept getting beat for a while.

All of a sudden, though, I got really tired, and knew it was time to go home. The idiotic thing about this is when I got home, I laid down, but couldn’t sleep. I finally started doing laundry about 6:30 or so, and still couldn’t sleep, even while I was doing laundry. I didn’t get to sleep until about 12:30 that night, and woke up at 3:30 unable to go back to sleep.

Which means that Monday was such a fun day! The one thing that probably saved me is that we all had to move our cubicles as part of a staff rearrangement, so that kept me awake. I then went to the doctor’s afterward (hemoc). He tested my blood, and found that my white blood cell count is still high, about 15,000 (should be 4-11,000). He told me (again, *sigh*) that he didn’t know why my wbc was still high, and he’d like me to visit every 6 months to track my progress. Since I had been testing my blood for almost the past two years, I saw no need to continue his co-pays, and figured that if my blood got any worse, I could always go back to him.

So, it’s Tuesday. I’m still wore out. Still don’t feel too much like working. But I’m here, and I guess it’s going ok.

Thanks for all of your prayers. Not just for me, but also for Trevor Swift. If you’ve kept up with his situation, he’s been making some progress with the feeding tube and his ventilator. Link is at the top of the blog on the right hand side if you want to read more.

Well, that’s it for now. Have a great day, and God Bless!

Thursday Thirteen #6

Thirteen events in the week of Bubba

  1. I am grateful for a God that loves us so much that he sent His son to die for us. Almost no sin is unforgiveable, and He’s always there to take us back. How could you not love a God that loves like this?
  2. I’m grateful for both of my families. I have a family that’s my own flesh and blood, and I don’t get to see them often enough, because I’m in Arizona, and (most of them) are in New York state. They are the reason I exist and have my being. I’m also grateful for my ex-wife’s family, and how they’ve continually loved me even after we got divorced. I love you all.
  3. I’m grateful for my church, Cornerstone. These are the first set of Christians that I’ve met that are earnestly trying to be better Christians by not being judgemental, being loving towards each other, loving towards others, and just trying to do as Jesus would have them do. Yes, I know that sometimes they fail. Yes, I know that doesn’t apply to every person that walks through their doors. However, day in and day out, they are my friends and family, and I can count on them for anything.
  4. I am thankful for my job. It’s something that I truly enjoy, I get a lot of satisfaction from it, and my co-workers show me a lot of respect and love. I get to greet several people each day with a hug, and I even get complaints if I forget someone on the list. It’s a great place to spend my professional life.
  5. I’m grateful that I’m relatively close to work. Takes me less than 30 minutes to get there…and with the sprawl that we experience here in Arizona, that’s no small feat.
  6. I’m grateful that the computer I built almost 7 years ago is still pretty functional. I won’t be playing the latest, greatest games on it, but as far as anything on the web is concerned, it works just fine. However, I do plan on replacing it sometime soon (I hope!)
  7. I’m grateful for friends I can call anytime, day or night, and I know that they’ll be there for me. I don’t have many of these, but I am grateful for the ones that I have.
  8. I love my poker night buddies. This is a group of people that accept me for who I am, don’t take offense when I make a stupid or silly comment, and I can let my hair down and be who I am for a few hours. I love you guys!
  9. I’m grateful that I found a roommate that I get along with well. God truly provided him for me, because I wasn’t sure where I was going when I got divorced, and not sure I had the time or the strength to look for a place. Oh, and he happens to be my ex’s uncle.
  10. Even through my illness, God has always provided for me. I’ve never had to worry about where my next meal is coming from, or how I’m going to make rent…even though I didn’t work for 3 months last year.
  11. I’m grateful for the TT list. I am starting to get to know a few others on here…and there are some really great people.
  12. I’m grateful for the people I’ve dated since my divorce. Even though these relationships don’t often end up in a good place, I’ve loved the experiences, and these people (names not mentioned) will always have a special place in my heart.
  13. Last, I’m grateful that I’ve been made a stronger person because of the things that did not kill me.
